The Poker Room Itself
Our poker room is one of the largest purpose-built poker areas in the North East of England. We have around 200 permanent seats, multiple tables running at the same time, and a layout that is clearly designed for poker, not just squeezed into spare space on the main floor. Once you are a few hours into a cash session, that sort of setup really starts to matter.
Cash games are scheduled every day from 4 pm, subject to the current schedule. At weekends, play continues late into the night - if you walk in at 1 am on a Saturday, you should still find live tables running. No wandering around the floor looking for a spare seat, and usually no long waits hoping a game will finally open.
The casino is based inside The Gate leisure complex on Newgate Street, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 5TG. There is also an entrance from Stowell Street if you are coming from the Chinatown side. For a lot of visitors that ends up being the simpler route, especially if the car is parked nearby.
Entry to the venue is free of charge. There is no compulsory membership just to walk in and play. Guests must be at least 18, and we ask for photo ID from anyone who appears under 25. If you decide to join the Aspire Club loyalty scheme while you are here, you will need valid ID at that point as well, as it is required during registration.
Cash Games: What to Expect
Our daily cash schedule is intentionally straightforward.

We do not lock the room into a single fixed stake. Different tables run different formats depending on player demand, so the mix on a particular evening can change from day to day. If you are targeting a specific game type or limit, it is sensible to call in advance rather than assuming it will definitely be spread when you arrive. That is general live poker common sense, but it really does prevent a wasted round trip.
With space for 200 players, we rarely have issues with the room feeling overcrowded. Several tables can run at once and still leave everyone with enough elbow room. That breathing space is useful when you settle in for a longer cash session.
Tournaments and Competitive Play
Our tournament programme is listed on PokerAtlas, CardPlayer and The Hendon Mob. The venue is listed on major poker directories and result databases, which supports its tournament profile and gives you an idea of how long we have been hosting ranked events here. Results from tournaments at this venue contribute to recognised competitive rankings, so if that side of poker is important for you, the framework is already established.
We run regular tournament formats through the week. One of the recurring options is our Poker Cash Dash League, which uses a league-style progression system. Your ongoing participation across events counts for something, not just an occasional deep run. It suits players who prefer to build towards something over time rather than rely on a single spike result.
Newcastle University Students’ Union Poker Society also holds weekly freeroll tournaments with us, with a guaranteed prize pool of £200 or more. These events are open to all participants. A £5 society membership gives access to a £600 guaranteed tournament as well as other programmed games. It is a useful route in if you are in that student bracket, or simply want a lower-stakes way into the competitive environment.
Joining a Tournament
Registering for a tournament at our desk is a simple process and usually quite quick. You can enter through The Gate main escalator entrance on Newgate Street, or use the Stowell Street entrance, then head straight across to the dedicated poker room. Speak with our desk staff about the next tournament on the schedule. If you appear under 25 or you are signing up to the Aspire Club, have your photo ID ready. Once the buy-in is paid, you will receive a seat card and then just need to be in your chair before the official start time.
A typical sequence looks like this:
- Come in via Newgate Street or the Stowell Street entrance
- Go directly over to the poker room desk
- Ask to register for the next tournament and pay the buy-in
- Present photo ID if requested by the team
- Take your allocated seat before the tournament begins
- Follow floor instructions on blind levels, breaks and any table moves
- When you reach the final table, confirm the payout structure with the floor manager before play continues
